OCTOBER BLOG #2 Conflicts

In the story “The Absolutely true diary of a part time Indian” The Protagonist Junior goes on a wild ride through his many conflicts. One example of a Man vs. Society Is when Mr. P tells Junior how he should and needs to get out of his rez in order to avoid destroying his own life though drinking and drugs. Once Junior runs transfers to Reardon all of his tribe begin to hate him for he left them for a white school. Another example for conflict would be man vs. man, how throughout most of the story Rowdy is seen as the enemy and rival towards Junior. The two were originally best friends but after Junior left the rez for Reardon Rowdy started to have greater negative feelings to Junior. This creates a sort of tension between the two especially when they have a basketball game against each other. An example of an internal conflict would be how Junior constantly feels isolated. Throughout the story Junior complains how he was born differently and for that he is weird, also how being experiencing how it feels like to be pushed around his own classmates. This connects to the theme of the story of how isolation is nothing to be afraid of by showing the reader that It is possible to live with isolation, if a poor Indian kid against all odds found a way into the popular kids then so can anyone else.

December Blog #2 Theme

I believe one of the central themes of the story is to never let Isolation ruin your life. In the story “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian” the protagonist Junior or Arnold Spirit has lived in Isolation all his life. One example from the story would be how Junior was the only Indian at the Reardon School besides the school mascot. Junior would go to school on his own since he was an Indian and all the other kids were white. At school all white kids would insult Junior and refuse to hang out with him, this caused junior to feel ostracized by the rest of his school. However he soon learns to live with isolation and he untimely becomes one of the most popular kids at school. This can relate to the world by telling audience not to get so worked up about being isolated. People in this world do drugs and alcohol just to relieve them from the fact that they are alone, some people even commit suicide just to get away from it all.

December Blog #1 Specail Christmas gift

If I could give someone anything regardless of time, money, or space I would give that something to my dad. First of all my dad is my dad so that is something that makes him special to me, but seriously he does so much for my family, he brings the most money to my family, deals with his college degree after work hours, and he is just a great full-time father always offering help and knowledge. My gift would be for my Dad would be something really special, I would give him both a simple house and youth or health. I Believe MY dad deserves this gift because he has worked very hard his life, starting on his own in America, working time after time after time but yet we still don’t have a house which both of my parents want. Like I also said I would more than anything want my dad to have youth. I’m not trying to say my dad is old or anything but it’s just that he injured his leg as a child and that stopped him from playing his favorite sport soccer, and he was good. So I chose youth for to be my dad’s gift because with it perhaps he can run with me whenever I do my workouts, or teach me and my bro soccer, or just hang out by some sort of physical activity, but to do this he would have to run but with his leg injury he can only walk and barley jog. Youth would also give my dad the oomph to teach my brother and I soccer which he will be able to do once he’s better, and if this happens we can join the soccer team and possibly be good which is something my dad has always wanted us to do, to love soccer the way he did whe he was young and if this happened he’d be getting youth and his two sons in soccer!

OCTOBER BLOG #1 Plot and Non-Plot

The difference between plot and non-plot questions is that plot questions retell the story while non-plot questions require analysis of the story.

November Blog #2 Propaganda

1) What ideas, information, or rumors does this artifact of propaganda attempt to spread?
The Idea of this ad is trying to show how our industry (mainly the oil industry) and global warming is destroying the polar bear’s home (and also other living animals in that region). In the ad the polar bear is walking away from no more ice area and onto the what is left of the tundra because as you can see in the ground the ice is cracking so the polar bears are forced to move onto the tundra that they have left, why because our oil industry is destroying their homes through global farming (or climate change).

2) What institution, cause, or person is it trying to help or hurt? Explain.
I believe this ad is trying to help the cause to reduce the amount of global warming we give off and also to help save the polar bears from dying, because before the vast oil industries the tundra was fine but now as shown in the picture the industries are destroying the landscape.

3) What do you think is the most persuasive element of this propaganda? Why?
I believe the most persuasive element of my picture are the polar bears themselves, mostly because without them the picture would not make much sense. I would still make sense like our industries are destroying the tundra but with the polar bear we see that there is life in the tundra and for that we must save the land and the polar bears.
